I doubt that you're a bad Christian. I also doubt that you have a problem with your faith, prayer, or desire to follow the Lord.
If you struggle with addictions, anxiety, anger, burnout, depression, perfectionism, poor self-worth, or shame, there's a strong chance it may be linked to unresolved childhood trauma or abuse.
Hello, I'm Don Mondell, a pastoral counselor and trauma coach. I'm also the founder of Christian Wellness Journal and SoulCare Research, where I developed the counseling tools HearHelp and P.R.A.Y., which Christian counselors around the world use today.
After 35+ years helping Christians heal, I built MySoulSteps, a Christian, trauma-informed coaching platform for wounded Christians.
MySoulSteps gives you 24/7 access, on any device, to 47 one-of-a-kind trauma-recovery resources available only at MySoulSteps. If you'd like, I can also meet with you online regularly for confidential one-on-one guidance tailored to your needs.
I'll create a custom wellness path for you and help you walk it. You can also join our private groups to learn and share with other struggling Christians just like you. Feel free to use just your first name if that is more comfortable.
You don't need to worry: I won't diagnose you or label you. This is coaching, not therapy. If you're in therapy or connected to a church, MySoulSteps works alongside both, giving ongoing support between sessions.
Also, I don't bill insurance, so nothing in MySoulSteps becomes part of your medical or insurance record. What you share stays private, with the limited exceptions the law requires, which I'll explain before we begin.
For many years, I had a separate income source that let me offer my resources, experience, and time to clients for free. I no longer have that income source, and the technology behind MySoulSteps costs a lot of money each month. So I now have to charge a fee.
However, we're also adding more features to MySoulSteps. While we're still building, I'm offering new clients a 52% discount compared to the price when we launch the new features. Plus, you'll receive the new features at no extra cost as long as you are a MySoulSteps member.
To give each client enough attention, I have a limited number of openings, so if you're ready, click the "I'm Ready" button. To learn more about what's included, click the buttons below. If you'd like to talk first, click the call link to schedule a free call, or email me your questions using the email link below.
Whichever you choose, may you find the answers you need and peace in Christ.
I hope to hear from you soon.

Many Christians attend Church for a long time, some for most of their lives, and many have heard sermons, classes, songs, and other messages like the following...
"You’re a child of the King!”
"You’re more than a conqueror!”
"You’re the head, not the tail!”
"You have the victory!”
"You’re a new creation!”
What about Christians who struggle with addictions, anger, anxiety, burnout, depression, perfectionism, poor self-worth, or shame? Do those Christians feel like a victorious conqueror?
From my experience counseling and coaching for over 30 years, I can tell you they often feel more like: “I’m a mess.” "I'm a failure." "I'm not a good Christian." Is that you?
Maybe you’re wondering if something is really wrong with you because it seems like everybody else at church is happy and “victorious.” But you don’t want anybody at church to know what's going on with you, right?
If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
There are a lot of wounded Christians suffering from the same issues as you, and they hide it.
Why do wounded Christians hide their problems?
Christians keep their problems hidden because they’re ashamed. They’re ashamed because they’re afraid that if somebody finds out about their problems, they’ll be rejected by a pastor, church leader, husband, wife, friend, or other Christians.
Why do wounded Christians believe they’ll be rejected because of their problems?
Many wounded Christians believe that as a Christian, you’re not supposed to have problems like addictions, anger, anxiety, burnout, depression, perfectionism, poor self-worth, or shame – but they do.
Why do wounded Christians believe they’re not supposed to suffer from addictions, anger, anxiety, burnout, depression, perfectionism, poor self-worth, or shame?
Wounded Christians believe they’re not supposed to have those problems because a preacher, pastor, teacher, elder, brother, or sister convinced them – if you’re living as a Christian should, you will not have those problems.
And here comes that inner voice…
“Am I really a Christian?”
“Am I a good Christian?”
“Is God mad at me?”
“What do I do?”
It can get worse because, week after week, you go to church, smile and sing, and do all the Christian stuff, and then you go home and fall back into your same secret problems and the loneliness that comes with it.
Then, maybe, you get the nerve to tell a church leader your problem, and the leader, who’s someone who cares about you but hasn't had specialized training in childhood trauma, gives advice that, though well-meant, doesn't quite reach the real cause. Then, you end up thinking…
"I don’t have enough faith."
"I don’t pray enough."
"I don’t love the Lord enough."
"Maybe I'm not really a Christian!"
It’s no mystery, then, why wounded Christians would hide their problems.
How do I know these things about wounded Christians?
I know these things because I was a pastor in a Church setting for many years, and every day I worked to help people like you. But a pastor wears many hats and does many things, and I just wanted to help God’s people get well.
That’s why I switched from being a traditional pastor to a pastoral counselor and coach, and I specialize in helping wounded Christians who suffer from addictions, anger, anxiety, burnout, depression, perfectionism, poor self-worth, and shame, usually as a result of unresolved childhood trauma & abuse.
I also understand that the source of your problems isn't always your fault.
As a child, you may have experienced physical, sexual, or verbal abuse. You may have grown up in a home where mom or dad or both were an alcoholic or drug addict. You may have been raised in a harsh military home or suffered the divorce of parents you loved.
All of those conditions can create the same type of trauma in a child that can predispose them to future problems.
What most wounded Christians seldom realize is that those traumatic things that happened to them as a child can still affect them today – even after they’ve become a Christian.
How do I know unresolved childhood trauma can continue to affect adults even after they become a Christian?
For over three decades, I’ve specialized in helping Christians who struggle with addictions, anger, anxiety, burnout, depression, perfectionism, poor self-worth, or shame due to unresolved childhood trauma caused by adverse childhood experiences such as verbal, physical, or sexual abuse, neglect, abandonment, exposure to violence, or substance abuse.
I'm talking about Christians in every congregation; you'd never know the issues they struggle with just by looking at them. Yet, they continue to struggle.
I know the problem intimately, and aside from direct ministry as a pastor, counselor, and coach to Christians still affected by abuse & trauma, I'm also a Board-Certified Christian Life Coach (BCCLC), Professional Mental Health Coach (PMHC), Certified Trauma-Informed Coach (CTIC), and recognized by the International Board of Christian Care, the Board of Christian Life Coaching, the American Association of Christian Counselors, and the International Christian Coaching Association.
So, with these problems, how can you find peace? How can you feel safe, accepted, and part of the church without feeling judged?
I understand how you feel. Wounded Christians need a different type of care compared to trauma-impacted non-Christians. That’s why I created MySoulSteps.
Now you have a way to understand what happened to you, what led you into the struggles you face, and what can help you find peace, feel safe, feel accepted, and get better, all without judgment.
MySoulSteps is my life's work created to help Christians toward emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.
MySoulSteps differs from many processes; it's not therapy, but a Christ-centered, step-by-step path to wellness. MySoulSteps is also not meant to replace professional healthcare or supplant the work of a therapist or counselor; rather, MySoulSteps is a 24/7 adjunct resource for education, encouragement, guidance, and fellowship.
I'd like to help you through MySoulSteps.

MySoulSteps Map is a "living" booklet regularly updated and a "field guide" for the MySoulSteps journey toward better spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

Races aren't won by taking one giant step – they are won by taking one step after another. MySoulSteps WINS Journal records your daily wins on your wellness journey, one step at a time, no matter how big or small.
Your journal becomes a strong source of encouragement as you look back over time, especially on days when you find yourself struggling. You'll see how far you’ve come, and youwill feel encouraged. One day, you will be able to show others your journal as encouragement, too.

Everyone shows a predictable pattern of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors shaped by their particular God-designed personality type.
Learning your personality type helps you and your coach better shape your specific wellness journey. Recognizing others' personality types can improve your relationships.

MySoulSteps LifeTrack helps you stay on course toward physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual health.
To accomplish that, LifeTrack helps you measure your current well-being across five key dimensions: Physical Fitness/Movement, Nutrition/Food Intake, Sleep/Rest, State of Mind/Mood, and Spiritual/Personal Growth.

MySoulSteps P.R.A.Y. is a standalone Christian counseling/coaching tool that I developed and that Christian counselors worldwide use.
You simply listen when you need it, and the narrator guides you through the entire process to help relieve issues. P.R.A.Y. is included free with your MySoulSteps membership.

MySoulSteps HearHelp is similar to P.R.A.Y., except that each session is shorter and more focused on what the Bible says about a particular issue you may be suffering from.

MySoulSteps RecommendED offers books, videos, and other content to help you learn and live beyond past issues, plus resources on all-around Christian living and physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness.

MySoulSteps PreViews is where you share your thoughts, ideas, concerns, and input, and vote on upcoming content such as articles, books, videos, etc.

MySoulSteps FastAnswers is a guidance tool that provides quick answers to common questions from wounded Christians about the issues they've suffered and their impact on their lives.

MySoulSteps CopingSkills quickly gives a wounded Christian practical "tools" and practices to help mitigate symptoms associated with certain issues.

MySoulSteps LinkLibrary is a daily-updated and ever-growing catalog of links to research papers, articles, and sources for insights on addictions, anger, anxiety, burnout, depression, perfectionism, poor self-worth, and shame.

MySoulSteps BibleGuide quickly shows a wounded Christian how to use the Bible to address issues they may be suffering from

MySoulSteps ArticleArchive contains all articles published in Christian Wellness Journal (christianwellnessjournal.com) plus articles that may be more specific to the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health of a wounded Christian.

CoffeBreak Q&A is a weekly "time out" you can visit during a break or lunch.
During CoffeeBreak Q&A, I answer questions from MySoulSteps members. I don't name who asked the question or reveal anything that would point to a particular person.
CoffeeBreak Q&A is simply a quick way for members to gain useful information in a casual, non-threatening environment.

MySoulSteps CommUnity is a separate Facebook-like discussion thread for each specific issue, such as addiction, anger, anxiety, and more.
MySoulSteps members post questions, prayer requests, ideas, and more, and others respond, which forms a united community around the same topic(s) and needs. It's first name only.

MySoulSteps GrowthGroups are live, online, anonymous group meetings (use any name you want) where MySoulSteps members work together to grow into the life God always intended for them.
